NFL Playoffs- Wildcard Weekend

What's up readers? It's HipsterC here bringing you another NFL post. This time, we have wildcard weekend as our subject. There are some must see match ups coming. One in particular is the Lions vs. the Cowboys. Two very capable offenses. Both led by a specific QB-WR combo. The Lions have Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson and the Cowboys have Tony Romo and Dez Bryant. These duos are key for their team's success in the playoffs. In my opinion, the Lions have a better defense than Dallas, but the Cowboys have a much more potent run game than the Lions. This could be the best game of the weekend. I look forward to watching it. Next we have an AFC North showdown between the Ravens and the Steelers. This game boasts a great rivalry, which will only add more fuel to the fire. These two teams traditionally have been defensive minded, but this year it's a whole different story. The Steelers have found a new weapon in Le'Veon Bell. He rushed for over 1300 yards this season, which is more than was expected. They also have the combo of Big Ben to Antonio Brown who is having a great season as well. I think this game will be decided by offense, rather than defense. Which offense will perform under the pressure? Next you have the Bengals and the Colts. Two more teams that are more offensive minded. More so the Colts than the Bengals. I don't think there is much to this game. I expect the Colts to win. If the Bengals can play the Colts like they played the Broncos then maybe they have a chance, but big games haven't been Andy Dalton's strong point, contrary to his opponent Andrew Luck, who thrives in these situations. Lastly, we have the Panthers vs the Cardinals. I don't really know what to expect here. The Cardinals are clearly a defensive team. They've been derailed by injuries to their QB's and Andre Ellington. I like the defense, but I don't know if the offense is good enough without Carson Palmer to beat anybody in the playoffs. It is the Panthers though. They have that going for them. Unfortunately for Arizona, the Panthers have figured it out. They are playing to the best of their ability and I think that'll be enough to knock off the Cardinals. As always let me know what you think in the comment section and thanks for reading.

Kobe hits 32,000 points

What's up readers? HipsterC here to talk about Kobe's most recent accomplishment. He hit 32,000 points! It took 19 seasons, but he finally did it, and in a very Kobe like fashion. He hit his classic turn around fadeaway that he's hit so many times in his illustrious career. AND ONE! With 28 points in the win over the Atlanta Hawks, this is what people expected out of the Lakers this year. A balanced approach led by efficient scoring by Kobe. 10/18 shooting. Not too shabby Kobe, not too shabby. If the Lakers can keep this kind of play up, they might just have a respectable record at the end of the year. They still won't make the playoffs, but they could win some games this year. Scare some contenders. Kobe didn't make any headlines with his assist total, but as long as he's passing the ball, it doesn't matter. They played as a team. Kobe needs to trust his teammates and keep shooting like he did last night. If that happens, he'll pass MJ on the all time scoring list and they'll win some games along the way. So congratulations to Kobe Bean Bryant on becoming the 4th player in NBA history to score 32,000 points. Keep it up Mamba.

What's Wrong With The Lakers?

What's up readers? It's HipsterC here to talk about a very sad story in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers. They are off to a franchise worst 1-9 start and people are wondering," have the Lakers lost it?" For the moment, they have. It's sad to see Kobe, in the twilight of his career, being forced to jack up shot after shot in an attempt to keep his "team" in the game. Kobe is shooting a career worst 37% from the field, and a mediocre 28% from three. Sure he is averaging 27 ppg, but who couldn't when he's shooting as much as he is? He's taking 24 shots a game! He is leading the league in scoring and shot attempts. He recently broke the NBA record for missed shots in a career. I'm not going to criticize him for that. Over the course of 19, highly productive years you're going to rack up a lot of shot attempts. With a career field goal percentage over 45%, they're justified. Kobe is just being Kobe. When things go bad for the team, he tries to take over. It worked in the past, but these days teams will just let Kobe do his thing and keep his teammates out of the game. As an opposing coach, you'll gladly let Kobe score 44 if it means you win by 21 like the Warriors did. Kobe isn't exactly doing a great job getting his teammates involved. He's averaging just over 3 assists per game, which would be fine if he didn't have the ball so much, but that is unfortunately not the case. If the Lakers want to turn this season around and at least compete with teams on a nightly basis, Kobe is going to have to trust his teammates. While that has never been his strong suit, he can do it. I expect him to slow down on the shooting after he passes MJ on the all time scoring list. That doesn't work if he wants to win games now, but I'm not so sure he's concerned about winning right now. The Lakers won't contend for a playoff spot this year. That much is clear. The real question is how bad will Kobe allow them to be? They have some offensive weapons, but they don't really click very well. Their defense is horrible. I don't know if that is repairable. They have the ability to defend, just not the desire. I understand that. When you're losing, what's the point? You already know you're going to lose. Why defend? That is the entire problem. The teams mentality has to change. They have the potential to at least be an average team, but not if they don't believe in themselves. I'm not sure if the Lakers will turn it around and win some games, but I do know this. If they don't start playing as a team, both offensively and defensively, this team might not even get 20 wins. As always let me know what you think in the comment section and have a great day.

Steve Nash Out For Season

What's up internet? It's HipsterC here to bring you another NBA story. It isn't looking good for the final year of Steve Nash's career. He has officially been ruled out for the entire 2014-2015 season. Nash is the oldest "active" player in the NBA at 40 years old. Steve is set to make $9 million this year and likely won't even wear the Lakers' jersey this year. It's very sad to see such an amazing career end like this. Everyone would have loved to see him go out on his own terms and contributing to the team, but unfortunately, that doesn't look like it's going to happen. One of the all time greats will go out without a whimper. It's sad to see. He is one of my favorite players ever and in his prime, was unstoppable. A two time MVP and is 3rd all time in assists with over 10,000 career assists. One of the best point guards ever and a sure fire hall of famer. He will be missed by all that got to see him play. The league won't be the same without him.

Cleveland Cavaliers Rant

What is up readers? You know who it is. HipsterC back to bring you an overview of the Cleveland Cavaliers. First, you've got Lebron going home to Cleveland and joining all star point guard Kyrie Irving and the recently traded all star PF Kevin Love. Now I don't mean to complain but.........SERIOUSLY BRO!!! ANOTHER BIG 3?!?!?! I thought we were done with this. I was so thrilled when I found out the Heat bandwagon had collapsed and then this s**t happens. I mean come on Lebron. Stop making big 3's please. I don't think it's too much to ask is it? You don't need two all star teammates everywhere you go. It's getting ridiculous. I applaud the Cavs for finally putting together a respectable roster but dang. Where are they getting the money to sign all these players? Let's quickly go over the STACKED roster that is the new Cleveland Cavaliers.
Projected Starting 5:
PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: Dion Waiters
SF: LeBron James
PF: Kevin Love
C: Anderson Varejao
Well...... Pretty good Cavs, pretty good. Plus they have a bench. This is a deep team that in all seriousness will probably win the east. I hate to say it but it's true. The only team I can see putting up a fight against this super team is the Chicago Bulls. Unfortunately the Bulls only have a chance if Derrick Rose is healthy come playoff time, which has been an issue the last couple of years. As a basketball fan, I sure hope so. He is one of the best players in the league when he's healthy. Well I think I've ranted long enough about the Cavs. Let me know what you think about the Cavs this year.

Who's going to the Super Bowl?

What's up guys? It's your boy HipsterC back on the blog. I'm here to give you my prediction on who is going to the Super Bowl this year. While there are many teams in playoff contention as of week 6, I can't help but feel like these so called "top teams" aren't going to be on top much longer. There are teams that people expected to be good, like the Denver Broncos. Then you have the "out of nowhere" teams; like the Dallas Cowboys. I know enough about the Cowboys to know they usually fizzle out before the playoffs, but something is different this year. They are being lead by the extraordinary play by RB DeMarco Murray, who has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the first 6 games. He is only the 2nd RB in NFL history to do so. I'm not sure how this guy is pulling off these amazing performances week in and week out, but I'm not going to question it. He's the MVP so far, that much is certain. From what I can see, the Cowboys are a serious contender and assuming Tony Romo doesn't go back to choking in the month of December, they could make some noise in the playoffs this year. Despite all of the praise I'm directing towards them, the Cowboys still aren't my pick to win it all. The NFC is a very difficult conference to pick from. There are a lot of great teams to keep an eye on. You've got the defending Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks. They are hard to judge considering their most recent home loss to the previously mentioned Cowboys. They are definitely a contender but without home field advantage, I don't see them getting back. Teams are figuring out how to beat their defense and while their offense is above average, I don't know if they can perform on a high level consistently enough to repeat. Next you have the 49ers, who are even more difficult to judge considering all of the off-field issues and injuries they've had to deal with. The thing that impresses me about them is that despite all that has gone wrong for them, they still have a record of 4-2 and are in the playoff hunt and once healthy and have all of their players back, will be in serious contention for a Lombardi trophy. You can't count them out. Then you have the Eagles. Not much too say about them. They're playing good football and have been able to win most of their games, except against the 49ers. They're franchise RB in LeSean McCoy hasn't quite been himself and they're going to need him to be if they want to do anything special this year. Despite they're 5-1 start, I wouldn't worry to much about the Eagles yet. I could go on forever talking about the depth of the NFC and how there are a lot of teams that COULD make it, but if I did that I'd never get to the AFC. So here we are, finally talking about the AFC. Now you have your marquee teams in the Broncos and the Patriots. Both are very good with they're own arguments for who's going all the way. Then you have the Colts, who despite a less than ideal start, have roared back with 4 straight wins and are looking like the favorites to take the AFC South. They have a high power offense that can't be ignored and have a chance to win no matter who they play. Next you have the San Diego Chargers, who have shocked the NFL with a surprise 5-1 start. After losing to the Cardinals week 1, they responded with 5 wins in a row and lead the always dangerous AFC West. Their play has the Broncos holding on to a wild card spot.I can't say I expected this kind of start from the Chargers, but I can't say I'm surprised. They have an elite QB in Phillip Rivers and some very good young talent. If they can keep this up, they'll at least have a shot at taking down a big name this year,With everything I've said and all of my knowledge that isn't in this article, my team to make it out of the AFC is going to have to be the Broncos. I know this seems like a typical prediction, some would disagree with me, but I can't put any team up against Peyton Manning's Broncos and have them come out with a win. I expect the Chargers to slow down and the Broncos to keep on rolling right into home field advantage. Denver isn't an easy place to play and I don't think any team is going to knock them out. As for the NFC, I'm still torn. I want to say the 49ers will make it out of the NFC, but that would just be a biased prediction. I think they have a shot if they get everyone back and continue to play their game. My prediction for the NFC is predicated on the assumption that the Cardinals will eventually fall from their 4-1 pedestal and come crashing down to reality. Because despite the play of teams like the Eagles and the Cowboys, I don't believe either of those teams will make past the divisional rounds mainly because of their short comings on defense. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm not going to give one team the nod in the NFC. I'm going to say it will be the NFC West vs the Denver Broncos. I can't say which of the three NFC West powerhouses will ultimately make it to the biggest game of the year, but I strongly believe it will be one of the three. I will even go as far as to say whichever NFC West team makes it will win the Super Bowl. Please feel free to leave a comment if you have anything to add to this. I love hearing what the readers have to say. I'm glad to be back.
